A Tribute to Kevin Mahogany Kansas City Concert reviews
Skillet surprised me, Toby Mac delivered
Skillet's live performance blew away the studio recording! I'd heard two songs by Monster and Awake prior to this show. Definitely a band that should consider recording their next album live or find a producer that can capture their live performance energy in the studio. I thought they were okay and was looking forward to seeing what they would sound like live.
House of Heroes only performed four songs. I was looking forward to seeing them, and ended up just feeling sorry for them. The mix was horrible--couldn't understand a word they were saying.
A Tribute to Kevin Mahogany put on a good show. I was really touched to see some of his songs treated by the crowd as if they were Sunday-morning worship songs. At times it looked like they were really having a lot of fun. It was the first solo performance of his that I'd seen. The staging of his background singers and some of their interaction was odd--it felt a little "off." People had their hands in the air, eyes closed, in an attitude of praise. Hip-hop worship. Awesome!
Overall, a very good show. I was a little frustrated with the mix, un-intelligible vocals, but it was fun to watch.
